The time for talk is over.
Fridays for Future!
Isaiah 11:6 6, “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.” There’s a very important youth movement growing on the shores of Lake Michigan. A seed was planted some years ago in the heart and mind of Miss Claire LeBlanc, a current Senior at Spring Lake High School in Spring Lake Michigan, urging her into action. A seed which was watered by international climate activist Greta Thurnberg and has produced a crusade which seems to be spreading like wildfire.
Her initial research led to her become a co-steward of a Michigan Nature Association nature sanctuary, which has given her a solid appreciation for the environment and the role we, as humans have in it. And with the love and support of her family, her actions have continued to inspire her classmates as well as the community at large, including myself.
I first found out about Claire and her friends in May of this year during the global climate strike. A Fridays for Future group in the rain with signs, just a few blocks from my own home. Taking the initiative, Claire was able to help organize a school strike for climate. Stirring the untapped passion in her high school student body and others through word of mouth. The group has even garnered enough attention to draw the Grand Haven Tribune to come out and see.
Claire believes we all need to act to change the direction our civilization is going before it’s too late. Change can be hard. However, we have no other recourse. This expanding movement is worthy of and deserves our respect and support. I believe these future leaders to be on the right track. Got a couple of hours to spare on a Friday afternoon? Come and join Claire and the Fridays for Future youth movement or find one near you. Can’t come out this week? Then spread the word. Our young people have spoken. Maybe it’s time we listened.
Claire and her friends will be in downtown Spring Lake, Michigan in front of Spring Lake Floral on Fridays from 3pm to 5pm. See you there!
